Tis the season … to slow down…

A colleague of mine shared with me that this time of year is the most common time to get off course. The reason, he explained, is because nature is slowing down (and telling us to) but we are not. Examples of the slow down are shorter days and longer nights suggesting more sleep time, buds aren’t blooming but instead trees and plants are seemingly inactive and animals are in hibernation. Rather than follow the wisdom of nature, we spend this time of year rallying adding shopping, parties, travel and hurried family obligations to our already busy schedules. No wonder so many find it challenging to enjoy this time of year!

So where should our focus be?

My personal belief is our efforts are best spent on developing ourselves to our greatest potential. If everyone adopted this belief, and put forth the effort, we all would be happy and happy to be in each other’s company. This doesn’t mean immersing yourself in a huge undertaking of self development and self study (although it could). At regular intervals, check in with the four aspects of yourself, your “quadrinity”, and provide what is needed to reach balance and equilibrium within.

Feed your mind. Sign up for the training course you want to take!
Care for your body. Schedule the bodywork session it’s calling for.
Nourish your spirit. Remember to keep things simple and appreciate the simple beauty surrounding you, right now.
Honor your emotions. Like the poet Rumi says in “The Guest House”, greet them all like honored guests and allow them to express themselves fully.

I don’t know if the end of the world is coming, but I know it’s always the right time to live your best life.

Happy merry everything to you!
